Despite it being a grey and drizzly June morning a lovely day was had by all at the final fixture for Norbury Park and Woodfield Grove, neither of which were in a position to qualify for this year’s final.

Hosted by Norbury Park on Sunday 14 June, Aiden Doyle and Tahir Ahmed fought a tremendous battle in the men’s singles, with Aiden from Woodfield Grove winning the third set in a match tie-break.

The match of the day was the boy’s singles with some terrific rallying between NP’s Mark Lovejoy and WG’s Tom Wade, both newcomers to the Millennium Cup, which Mark won in straight sets.

Maggie Hodges (WG) played in both the ladies veterans and ladies doubles with Candice Kyle, just losing both matches on tie-breaks to Kate Hazelwood and the NP doubles pair of Anne-Marie O’Hara and Kathryn Piesse.

Laura O’Duffy (NP) beat Esme Kyle and David Snook (WG) beat Vlad Shalnev (NP) in the other two singles games.

Norbury Park fielded a brand new pair in the men’s doubles, Chad Robinson and Kelvin Gordon-Douglas, who thoroughly enjoyed the match and just beat the more experienced pairing of Joe Thompson and ‘Snookie’ on a championship tie-break.

Finally, NP’s joint captains Nigel Flay and Lisa Patient decided to finish off this year’s tournament by playing together in the mixed doubles, beating Carole Britton and Dougie Kerr, 6-3 6-1.

With both teams unable to field players in the Girls Under 16s, Norbury scored a decisive 6-2 win in this last tie of the 2015 league competition of the Millennium Cup, placing them third in the final Points Standings.
